Taken from a letter to the community after being awarded the title.

Many of you may not know that Saturday I had the honor of being elected Mr. SC Leather. Below is the post I have sent out to the groups I have been a part of and have helped me along the way.

I want to begin by saying thank you for all the well wishes both before and after the Leather Contest. I spent most of last week preparing and set aside my business paperwork until yesterday. So I have been glued to the computer catching up.

I've also been profoundly awe struck at the magnitude of what has happened. When it was suggested to me to run for Mr. SC Leather, I did not feel that I was in the category of persons deserving the honor. I was assured by many that I was, and would represent the Leather community with dignity. I have to confess that I discovered my weaknesses Saturday.

I want to thank those who contributed to my "basket" for the competition. And to april who agreed to be in my scene fantasy while we made light of the Lifestyle. Our skit, I was told, was the highlight of the evening. Lady D herself came up to me afterward to tell me how much she enjoyed it.

In attendance was what I call the "real" Leather community. During the Parade of Colors was the moment that I suddenly realized how important this event was. There were men and women of national titles. There were all orientations of Leather. There were people there that I could never in my mind be equal to.

There also was the Leather Order of the Midlands who are my new best friends. Especially one man called Den Daddy (He meant Steve P. of the Tradesmen, Charlotte, NC, who was the Den Daddy). He was mine and pat's coach. I now know what it is like to be on someone else's leash. I could not hide from that man to save my ass. It was he who pushed us and got us to sell the tickets for our baskets. I'm guessing, but I'd say we sold over $600 in tickets. All because of Den Daddy.

At the closing of the ceremonies, when all the men and women of Leather stood up and applauded proudly, it was an emotional moment for me. Here they were, the cream of the Leather community applauding pat and myself.

In the course of this next year, pat and I have to do them proud. The responsibility is almost overwhelming. We have to do better than our best. We have to represent SC Leather. I can see the joining of what have been two separate communities. I can see next year's SC Leather Contest as the biggest event in the state, and I am proud that I have this opportunity to help make it happen.
